Glass Gallery is an art gallery based on The Barbican in Plymouth. It features the work of the hugely talented on-site glass artist, Ian Nicholls. Ian makes breathtaking art using fused glass, including decorative glass panels, mirrors, glass bowls and glass clocks. Each item is individually made, so each piece is unique. Ian also makes bespoke items to his customers’ individual requirements. Glass!! gallery also has a varied display of glass works by globally-renowned glass artists.
Ian asked Outerbridge to create a stylish, minimalist, contemporary website. He wanted the website to showcase his art work and let the glass speak for itself. He was looking for a website that gave potential customers a flavour of the range, quality and artistry available at the gallery, with the aim of encouraging them to visit the gallery to see the pieces in their full glory. It’s important to him that the website reflected the style of his work. He also needs fast, reliable hosting and ongoing support to keep the website updated, well maintained and secure.
We love Ian’s art work and we were keen to do it justice. Of course, it’s notoriously difficult to bring 3-dimensional art to life on a 2-dimensional website. Whilst nothing can compare to seeing the physical works of art at Ian’s gallery, we think the website gives a tantalising glimpse of what’s available and will make people want to visit his galleries in person. We used photographs of the art showing not only the complete piece but also images of items in context and detailed views of smaller areas of the glass art to show Ian’s pieces to best effect.
We also provided Glass with a premium website support package so that they could benefit from super-fast hosting, backups, security and performance checking. They appreciate the fact that we look after their website so that they can get on with running their business.
